What is Daggerboard?
A GO / CAUTION / NO-GO decision aid for small-boat sailing on the Salcombe estuary. You describe your boat and your comfort level once; Daggerboard then reads live wind and tide for each named zone and tells you, in plain English, whether conditions are within your envelope - and why.
Where does the data come from?
Wind comes live from Open-Meteo. Tide state comes live from the UK Hydrographic Office (contains ADMIRALTY® tidal data: © Crown copyright and database right). The verdict logic - including the wind-over-tide rule at the Bar - runs on top of those inputs.
Is this a navigation app?
No. Daggerboard is for passage planning only. It is not a navigation product, not a safety system, and never a substitute for your own judgement, local knowledge or an official forecast. The final call on the water is always yours.
Why does wind-over-tide matter?
When the wind blows against a flowing tide, waves get shorter and steeper - conditions at somewhere like the Salcombe Bar can turn nasty even when the raw wind number looks fine. That interaction is exactly what a plain forecast does not tell you, and it is the main thing Daggerboard watches for.
Which areas are covered?
The Salcombe estuary is the home patch, with early coverage of the Dart, Yealm and Avon. Zones are named decision points - the verdict applies to the assessed point, not a whole body of water.
What does a CAUTION verdict mean?
Conditions are near the edge of the envelope you set for that boat - sailable for some, marginal for others. Read the reasons the app gives and decide with your own experience in mind.
How much does it cost?
Daggerboard is free while in early access. Pricing for a paid tier will be announced before anything changes.
How do I delete my account?
In the app: Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, boats and feedback. You can also email us and we will do it for you.
